FEATURES OF INTERNATIONAL-LEGAL COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN THE ARAL SEA REGION (International Affairs 5-6/2022)

Abstract:

This article examines the theoretical and practical features of international legal cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection in the Aral Sea region. The author analyzes the role of international environmental law principles in mitigating the consequences of the Aral disaster, the need to strengthen the bilateral and regional legal frameworks—particularly between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan—and the feasibility of establishing a permanent interstate body for monitoring the Aral ecosystem. Specific amendments to international declarations regarding sea drying as an environmental disaster are proposed, alongside measures to protect public health and restore bio-resources in the Aral Sea basin.
