THE EVOLUTION OF NETWORK-CENTRIC WARFARE AND ITS IMPACT ON THE CONTEMPORARY SYSTEM OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Abstract:

This article examines the evolution of network-centric warfare and its implications for contemporary military strategy, international relations, and the broader security environment. It argues that network-centric warfare represents a systemic transformation in the organization of armed forces, where military effectiveness increasingly depends on the integration of intelligence, command, and strike capabilities within unified information networks. The study examines the transition from asymmetric network-centric conflicts to emerging “network duels” between technologically advanced states operating competing digital and sensor-based military architectures. Particular attention is given to the growing role of satellite constellations, artificial intelligence, drone-centric operational models, and advanced command-and-control systems in shaping modern warfare. The article also considers the strategic consequences of technological diffusion and competition for critical resources, which are reshaping global power relations and creating new challenges for middle and smaller states. Finally, the study discusses the potential emergence of quantum network-centric warfare, integrating quantum communication, artificial intelligence, and autonomous platforms into a fully networked battlespace.
